SPMA was initially developed by the Centre for Operational Research in Public Health (CORPH). The CORPH was a research unit of the Sciensano's SD Epidemiology and public health. This centre received a mandate from the Flemish and French Community to develop a software application called SPMA (Standardized Procedures for Mortality Analysis).
The purpose of this application is to facilitate the analysis of vital statistics (population, birth and death) for Belgium by year. It functions in an interactive way. Pre-defined procedures accessible through menus make SPMA very user-friendly, as it does not require any preliminary knowledge of the statistical package. The topic "How to use" contains important instructions concerning SPMA.
